gasoline crisis

Gas is rapidly reaching a point where supply simply cannot feed demand.Prices will certainly continue to rise.$5 a gallon is coming, and soon.China and India,to name two,are daily needing more gas.Available reserves are not enough.Basically,it took 100 years from widespread use of the gasoline engine to use up oil.Alternatives such as hybrid engines still depend to some degree on gasoline.Ethanol or biofuels from corn or sugar cane cannot carry the complete load that would shift from no gas at all.Fossil fuels will soon be literally just that.

gas sets another record high

Americans cut back on gas consumption 1.4% over the past 4 wks.As if in reply, crude oil prices rose.Soaring demand in Asia and elsewhere is ensuring oil supplys remain tight.Analysts predict upward spike will continue, and say there is no end in sight. Most agree $5 a gallon by end of July.Perhaps soon $4 a gallon will be looked at with nostalgia.$6 a gallon will certainly put such a weight on the economy as to forcibly make doing business for many companies unfeasible,as they can only pass so much on to their customers. Many small town police forces are cutting back patrols, for example.

516 miles between fillups

Toyota said it has developed a new fuel cell hybrid,a green car powered by hydrogen and electricity, that can travel more than more than twice the distance--516 miles vs. 205 miles--of it's predecessor model without filling up.It will be available for leasing in Japan later this year.Pricing and other details weren't available, and overseas plans were still undecided, officials said.-----On the U.S. car scene,Ford said Mercury sales are likely to fall below it's Lincoln brand for the first time since Mercury's creation 70 years ago.Mercury is Ford's poorest performing division, but officials said they have no plans to sell or eliminate it.This followed 3 straight annual sales declines.

Bicycles and motorbikes can beat high gas prices

Studies have shown that 4o% of trips from home are less than 2 miles.Gas prices are predicted to hit $5 per gallon next month.Does anyone really believe gas will ever go below $3 per gal. again?A quality bicycle can be bought for $200 or less. The exercise a bike will bring is a bonus.Local, state, and federal agencies are adding safe bike lanes to public roads daily.Stop spending at the pump and consider a bicycle.Motorbikes and motorcycles are another option.Mid-size motorcycles get 40+ miles per gallon.Motorbikes get even more.Recreational possibilities for bicycles or motorcycles are cosiderable.Trips from home are necessary but buying gas is not.Bicycles are low cost maintenance,do not need state inspections,do not need required-by-law insurance and do not need to be registered.Initial purchase price is almost only out of pocket cost.I for one am looking at any and all options to stop or at least minimize paying for gas.

bleak forecasts

The nation's economy lost jobs, and unempoyment rose the most in 22 yrs. last month, causing the Dow to plummet 395 points. The price of a barrel of oil rose $10.75 yesterday alone-to $138.54.Analysts predict $150 a barrel by next month.$5 per gallon for gas can't be ruled out.Federal gov.announced 49,ooo jobs were lost last month and unemployment reached 5.5%, a full half point above the April number.Homebuilders, banks, and brokerages have been slashing jobs for months, but the firing has spread to retailers, manufacturers and airlines-thanks largely to spiraling oil prices.
